Amira Khalil
Amira is a person-centered, somatic and cognitive therapist with extensive experience supporting clients through stress, trauma, addiction, and a wide range of mental health concerns. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) and earned her master’s degree from the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining Expanse, Amira worked in a dual-diagnosis clinic in Minneapolis, supporting clients experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, psychosis, neurodivergence, and substance use concerns.
Amira specializes in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), an eye-movement-based approach that can be particularly helpful in working through trauma and distressing experiences. She also provides Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), integrating the therapeutic process with the unique opportunities for insight, emotional processing, and perspective that psychedelic-assisted work can offer.
I believe human beings are not broken or disordered. The symptoms we experience often make sense when viewed in the context of our personal history, relationships, and environment. Many of the ways we think, feel, and behave developed for a reason and may have helped us feel safe or cope at an earlier point in our lives.
My role is to help you understand why your mind and body respond the way they do, given your story, and then—without judgment—explore whether those patterns are still serving you in the present. As children, we are remarkably adaptive. We develop creative ways of navigating the world and finding safety, even when our environments are difficult, unpredictable, neglectful, or abusive. As adults, however, some of those same strategies can begin to create difficulties in our relationships, emotional lives, or sense of self. Together, we can develop a deeper understanding of where your patterns come from, make peace with the parts of your past that continue to affect you, and create new ways of responding that feel more authentic and aligned with who you are today.
I take a holistic approach to mental health and believe that caring for the physical body is an important part of psychological healing. Movement, nutrition, sleep, and other aspects of physical well-being can meaningfully support mental and emotional health. Through a polyvagal and somatic lens, I can help you become more aware of your nervous system and recognize the different states your body moves through. Over time, you can develop greater capacity to influence those states rather than feeling controlled by them.
If you’re interested in understanding yourself more deeply, building a stronger relationship with your mind and body, and creating meaningful change rather than simply managing symptoms, we may be a great fit.
