Junao Wang

MD, Psychiatrist

Dr. Wang is a board-certified psychiatrist with expertise in trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, and co-occurring substance use disorders. A “triple Gopher,” he completed his undergraduate, medical, and residency training at the University of Minnesota, where he also pursued a neuromodulation research fellowship focused on transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and ketamine as treatments for treatment-resistant depression.

Dr. Wang has extensive experience providing psychiatric care to veterans within the PTSD program at the Minneapolis VA Healthcare System, where he continues to practice part-time. He is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota, training medical students and psychiatry residents in evidence-based treatments.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Wang has a strong interest in the intersection of mental health and financial well-being. Drawing from his undergraduate finance training and psychiatric expertise, he is pursuing certification as a Certified Financial Therapist. His goal is to help individuals better understand the psychological factors that shape their financial behaviors and address disordered relationships with money.

Dr. Wang values open, collaborative discussions and an evidence-based approach to treatment. He integrates medication management with supportive therapy, and also incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Dr. Wang is a first-generation Chinese immigrant who grew up in the Twin Cities. He enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and dog—whether playing games, trying new recipes, or watching sci-fi shows and movies. He has a passion for learning about current events, technology, and personal finance.
