Tara Song
Tara is a trauma-informed therapist who primarily practices through a psychoanalytic lens. She earned her MSW from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration and an MA in Spiritual Formation from Wheaton College Graduate School. She has been a fellow of the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy since 2022. She is dedicated to creating affirming, compassionate spaces where clients can feel safe, seen, and supported. As a second-generation Korean American, Tara’s lived experience informs her sensitivity to cultural nuance, intergenerational dynamics, and the complexities of navigating multiple identities.
Her approach is collaborative and grounding, focused on reclaiming agency, deepening emotional connection, and strengthening a sense of self. She believes therapy is most healing when it’s built on genuine partnership and encourages clients to show up as their authentic selves.
Tara works primarily with young adults and adults navigating life transitions, depression, anxiety, stress, and trauma. She is also passionate about working with individuals exploring identity, culture, and belonging—including those with Asian American or adoptee experiences, intergenerational immigrant family dynamics, and adverse religious experiences.
Alongside her work at Expanse MN, Tara provides comprehensive mental health services within the Veterans Affairs healthcare system, supporting veterans navigating trauma, substance use, identity concerns, and life transitions. Her experience in this setting has deepened her appreciation for the resilience people carry and the power of community in recovery.
Originally from Chicagoland, Tara moved to Minneapolis in 2020 and has appreciated building community here. Outside of her work, she finds joy in cooking and sharing meals, hiking, exploring restaurants, and spending time with her husband, their one-year-old daughter, and their cat. She values connection, creativity, and slowing down to savor everyday moments—both in and outside the therapy room.
